Machine Learning (ML) Models

« Back to Glossary Index

Machine learning models are algorithms that learn patterns from data to make predictions or classifications, such as estimating a clinical trial’s probability of success. Non‑technical healthcare professionals may conflate ML with simple statistics, not realising the dependence on training data, risk of spurious correlations, and need for rigorous external validation before deployment in regulated clinical or R&D contexts.
