Phase 1 trials are early human studies, usually in small groups, mainly assessing safety, tolerability and dosing of a new intervention. Non‑specialist stakeholders may not realise that success here does not imply efficacy, and that AI tools trained across phases must treat phase 1 data differently from later‑phase outcomes when forecasting long‑term development prospects.
